It seems Native Instruments Maschine will finally get some competition after all. Although, I’m a Maschine user I totally embrace competition among companies as it fuels each company to update their products in order to keep their clientele. Not to say that Native Instruments has been neglecting their users. In fact they have been ridiculously generous with updates and added content at no extra cost.
Well said.
I do not think it’s all about competing with Maschine. Its a fully functional classic MPC (like a hardware MPC where you do not have to touch the computer at all) but the operating system is on the computer instead so you can run VSTs and have all the other pros of software. It can also be run as a VST in any DAW program like ProTools, Cubase, FL Studio, Reason, Live, Or even maschine. Thats like having a fully functional MPC3000 (or other model) that runs as a VST in whatever DAW you are comfortable with completely synced up with your project at all times ready to go. You can make an entire beat on the MPC without even looking at your computer while its running in FL, protools, Live or any DAW program. Then with the DAW you can go in and add vocals, live intrument tracks and etc later because the whole thing is running as a VST completely synced up in your DAW ready to go without having to deal with midi or converting all your MPC tracks to audio tracks. You can do this with Maschine as well. The thing that makes it a little different than Maschine is there are still some MPC users that refuse to go software because of the way the MPC processes the audio. The classic MPC circuitry they use that gives it that certain MPC sound. This MPC is ALSO your computers audio interface. So its like havng a hardware MPC that is also processing all your computers audio. It’s your soundcard. It has all your audio inputs and outputs. Picture if you had an MPC2500 (or other model) that was also your computers Audio interface. Now MPC users do not have to be afraid of losing that “MPC” sound when switching to software. I’m sure they are also trying to win back all the old MPC users that switched to maschine that loved the MPC workflow. I’m sure whatever it is they are doing they are going to be very proud of it and give it their full attention because I’m sure they must know by now THIS is the future of the MPC. Whch is why its called an MPC and not an MPD. This isn’t really THAT much about competing with Maschine as much as it is bringing the classic MPC up to date with modern times. It was eventually going to happen anyways even if Maschine never existed to keep up with the software that probably would have put them out of biz completely if they didn’t release the popular MPD and MPK midi controllers that became a majority of their income for a while because people couldn’t see spending over a grand on a hardware unit when cheaper software was available that let you do more. I really do not think it’s completely about competition as much as people think it is. It is cheaper for them to make, will most likely be cheaper to buy then the other MPCs and will bring the classic MPC up to date with the times. Dedicated MPC lovers that stayed with AKAI but are tempted to go software for its beinifits will be very happy as well as beat maker newcomers looking for an all in one solution they can and expand and grow with will also be pleased. I think that is the market they are shooting for.

Last night I was on an incredibly boring redeye flight back to LA, but thanks to wifi inflight I was able to get on Twitter and detail our exploits once the whole flight decided to go H.A.M.
Thanks to the RocNation Tumblr (or whoever they reblogged from) for compiling what turned out to be quite…
